About Sheherazade  (also known as Connie Hurd)

Sheherazade has been dancing since she first watched Shirley Temple movies as a child way back at the dawn of time. She became a Pom Pom Girl (cheerleader) in high school in California and took part in dance productions in college. As a missionary teacher in Hong Kong she learned and taught Chinese traditional dance as an extra curricular activity and when teaching at a ghetto Junior High school in California she started and ran a cheerleading club (meeting and marrying her British husband and raising two children came somewhere in there, too. She is now the proud grandmother of 7 children ranging in age from 7 months old to 12 years old).

Sheherazade moved to England with her family and it was here that she returned to regular dance when she joined a tap dance class. She and some of her tap colleagues visited a local dance festival where Sheherazade saw belly dancing for the first time and fell in love with the grace and beauty of the dance.

Over the years Sheherazade has taken classes and workshops with some of the finest UK and international belly dance stars and when her husband talked her into taking early retirement from language teaching, moving into belly dance teaching was a natural progression.

Her teaching skills, gained over years as a primary languages specialist, have transfered well to dance teaching ... after all, dance is another form of language!

Sheherazade teaches Classical Egyptian style belly dance and Tribal Fusion bellydance.

As a graduate of Lincolnshire Dance's "Freedom in Dance" NOCN accredited course she is qualified to bring dance into residential homes, be they for the elderly or be they for vulnerable adults with physical or  mental health issues.

Sheherazade's husband, Mark, is her photographer, webmaster and her biggest fan. He also runs the national belly dance hub website www.orientaldancer.co.uk as well as being one of the best known and respected dance photographers in the Middle Eastern dance field (if you think there are too many photos of me on this website - blame him!)

All images on this site are by my husband and are copyright of www.markhurdphotography.co.uk. If you need portrait photos (he does "digital cosmetic surgery", too), event photos or have other photographic requirements please visit his website.
